How is New Jersey state government realigning to support redevelopment?
With the release of the draft State Strategic Plan in October, Gov. Christie set forth a vision to make New Jersey the “national leader in coordinated private and public investment which supports sustainable communities that attract and provide strong economic opportunities, preserve our state’s natural resources, and create healthier communities to work, reside and recreate.” In the country’s most developed and densely populated state, which is fast running out of developable land, this vision will necessarily require a fresh set of approaches to fostering redevelopment. During this session, the audience will hear directly from prominent state officials about how agency regulations, decision making and investments are changing to meet this new challenge. Audience Q&A will follow the panel discussion.

The convergence of the two largest generations in American history, baby boomers and millennials, is creating a profound structural shift in demographics and real estate. Both are driving market demand for walkable urban centers in core cities and inner-ring suburbs. Christopher Leinberger, author, developer, President of LOCUS, visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution and professor of urban and regional planning, will present a compelling case for what New Jersey must do to take advantage of this shift, while growing the economy and creating jobs.
